george washington: a revolutionary life

As the most visited historic home in America, George Washington’s Mount Vernon reflects a legacy that is both foundational and evolving. The stories told here continue to shape how we understand the nation’s beginnings and the people who lived them.

Solid Light partnered with Mount Vernon to reimagine the flagship exhibition and redesign the Education Center—where students and multi-generational families will interact with educators to learn and experience the foundational aspects of Washington’s life.

Opened in late spring 2026 to mark the 250th anniversary of the United States, these experiences invite deeper exploration, discovery, and connection.

reframing history through Rigorous scholarship, inclusive community engagement, and innovative reconstruction

Solid Light partnered with Mount Vernon to transform the core exhibition experience by blending advanced media, tactile learning, and facilitated engagement. Working alongside historians, educators, and descendant communities, the team researched and developed an inclusive interpretive approach.

Together, we addressed the challenge of telling Washington’s story in a way that includes voices traditionally marginalized in early American narratives. In collaboration with members of the League of Descendants of the Enslaved at Mount Vernon, we combined limited archival imagery, family records, and lived memory to help reconstruct their possible likenesses and stories. This careful, research‑driven process—enhanced by emerging technology—restores presence and humanity to individuals too often absent from the historical record, creating a more complete and honest understanding of America’s past.

The exhibition integrates AI‑assisted reconstructions, immersive projections, and complex media experiences to reveal a richer portrait of Washington’s world. This thoughtful, technology‑forward approach sets a new standard for how historic sites can evolve—deepening understanding while honoring the full spectrum of lived experiences that shaped the nation.
