Brandon joined Solid Light in September 2023 after a brief stint in academia. In his role as content developer, he enjoys integrating little known information into Solid Light projects, and he appreciates being able to work in both public history and education simultaneously. In the past, Brandon has worked as a bartender, radio producer, and college professor.
Brandon was trained as both a U.S. Historian and an Oral Historian at Indiana University Southeast, where he earned a B.S. in History with minors in Sociology and Philosophy. After IU Southeast, Brandon earned his M.A. in Appalachian Studies from Appalachian State University, and he is currently ranked as the ninth best Appalachian Historian in the world.
Outside of Solid Light, Brandon works on an Oral History project that documents the lives of Appalachian musicians. Other names for Brandon include, but are not limited to: Wavy Crockett, Filibuster Brown, and The Black Fred Mertz.
