The long-awaited immersive, orientation film, “A People’s Contest: America’s Civil War and Emancipation,” is now open at the American Civil War Museum in Richmond, Virginia.
Debuting in the newly constructed Robins Theater on June 17, 2022, the film complements the museum’s flagship exhibit, “A People’s Contest: Struggles for Nation and Freedom in the Civil War America,” designed and built by Solid Light.
The 1,128-square-foot theater in Richmond, VA, has 67 seats for visitors and utilizes a multi-screen projection technique, adding depth and dimension to the 13-minute film. “A People’s Contest” explores the origins, course, and aftermath of the Civil War.

The American Civil War Museum opened in 2019 and received the Excellence in Exhibition recognition for Story Telling Supported by Collections from the American Alliance of Museums in 2020.
